UPDATE 29-APR-2006:
I just discovered that there is a periodic signal on the 100k resistors, which is the supply voltage ripple of the high voltage module. The ripple on the 100k load resistor is about 2.4Vp with a frequency of ~75kHz. Hence the capacity of the flat detectors is not neglectible - a very stable power supply is needed. This is also in agreement to previous observations, when the HV and "GND" wires of the GM tube experiment were close to each other. This also resulted in continuous false counts.
Since the frequency is quite high and there is virtually no current drawn from the power supply, it should be easy to come up with a good filtering network.
